Summer

For the first time since I moved to London, I miss the summer. The really hot kind. I miss the scent it brings with it. I miss warm summer evenings. I miss my summer dresses. I miss not having to wear a coat. I miss sleeping with the windows open.

When it gets to this point, I usually start missing the winter.

Rain

The rain usually makes me feel a little bit happier…

I do love walking around London when it’s sunny and hot, but there’s something about its (or mine) permanent melancholic state that makes it feel more perfect under the rain. And it gives me an excuse to just linger around the house without feeling guilty.

Snow

It has been snowing in London, intermittently, since December.

Apart from the times when I need to leave the country (no-one seems to know to avoid the chaos in airports, train stations, etc), I confess I’m loving it.

As long as it doesn’t snow on Friday.

Warmth

It’s that time of the year when my friends in Portugal start telling me how warm it is over there.

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about the warmth. When I came to London, I was perfectly aware of the rain and the cold, and those are just two of the things that I love about it.

Hot/Cold

Living in London has completely altered the way I feel the hot and the cold. You could tell me it’s 30º when it’s only 22º and I’d believe it.

When I go to Portugal and hear someone saying the weather isn’t that great, I’ll just roll my eyes disapprovingly—I’ve become a weather snob.

I now understand why so many tourists dress like it’s summer in our Portuguese winter. It is summer.

(I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this on the website before, but this is a blog about London, so you’re bound to get a lot weather related posts.)

A typical summer day

A cold morning. A rather warm afternoon. Rain during the evening. Or nothing like this.

More rain

Call me crazy, but I’m actually enjoying looking outside my window and seeing the rain. I didn’t come to London expecting a “barbecue summer”.

Sunlight

I don’t love the sun, going to the beach and being sweaty. And I rather enjoy being inside while it’s raining outside. But I have to admit that now that there is more sunlight during the day, it does make a difference.

Cold

I now find myself thinking “Wow! This is a pretty warm day!”, when there’s 12ºC outside.

(I used to think all those people laying in the grass were overreacting…)
