Since I went to university — almost 10 years ago — and moved out of my parents’ house, it’s been hard for me to qualify a certain place in the world as “home”.
I was born in Russia, my father is from Panama (where I’ve also lived), my mum is from Portugal, I lived for 13 years in a small town near Porto, then 8 years in the Algarve, then London. I have a sentimental attachment to many places and none at the same time.
But the more I come back to London after a trip, the more it feels like home, more than any of the other places I’ve lived in.

I lived just outside for London for about a year, I loved it and miss it very much. Although I am very glad to be home in a city I love, Kansas City, I would probably only move away from KC to go back to London. I’ll keep reading about London, thanks for writing.
For 23 years from my birth I lived in the same town in Poland.
Since I moved here 5 years ago, London has been my home.
There is something about London. So much to hate, and so much to love.
Great blog! Found an interesting blog after a long time. Will be a regular reader. Never been to London, but would love to move/visit there someday. Best of Luck.
P.S. When I think of Portugal, two things (actually people) come in my mind. One Cristiano Ronaldo and other Jose Mourinho. And now the third one will be this blog by a Portuguese 🙂
It’s an illusion. Don’t worry: it’ll go away.
London has a way of convincing you that there’s nowhere else in the world you could be. Fight it. Fiiiiggght it. Don’t let it suck you in.
Why would I fight it? I like having a place that I can call home. Is that a bad thing?
Although I agree that London may have a way of deceiving you.
Yaili me acabas de inspirar… pronto (espero) iré a vivir a Córdoba, España… y la idea de llevar un blog sobre la historia y el lugar en general me parece genial…
Saludos desde Costa Rica!
I saw your photo on the SparkUp conference website some time ago and I thought you were the single most beautiful face I’d ever seen, so I had a look at your website and I started following your blog. But don’t worry, this post is not about cheap flattery 😉
Not having a place you can call home is very true. For several years, it was the UK for me (not London, although I agree with stephband that it has its ways to convince you there’s no better place), now it’s Spain. The most important thing is to feel at home, wherever you live.
