Soup

I miss Portuguese food. I miss going to almost any restaurant and knowing that I’ll be able to get a nice soup and a nice steak, with some nice bread, for a reasonable price.

But the soup… that is what I miss the most. Everything is greasy or spicy here.

Perhaps I’ll have to go to Brixton and try one of the Portuguese restaurants that are supposed to be there. That would not be practical to do every day though.

Too bad I can’t make soup.

Snow

It has been snowing in London, intermittently, since December.

Apart from the times when I need to leave the country (no-one seems to know to avoid the chaos in airports, train stations, etc), I confess I’m loving it.

As long as it doesn’t snow on Friday.

I’ve been in London for over one year now, and I still think that when a person is sitting on the left seat of a car, they are driving.

A Londoner

Today I was approached by a woman that was recruiting movie extras for her company’s books. She said I looked like a Londoner, and that was why she gave me her card.

Football

Last Tuesday I saw the UEFA Champions game Chelsea vs Apoel, at Stamford Bridge. Apart from some minor Under-21 games with the Portuguese team, that was the actual first proper football game I had ever seen live.

It was easy to get to the stadium and even easier to get in. It was a bit of a pain to leave and get on the Tube, but I wasn’t expecting anything better, really.

Overall, I loved the atmosphere, the game and even the cold was alright. Gotta do it again sometime, but hopefully in the Emirates Stadium, which I can easily just walk to.

Warmth

It’s that time of the year when my friends in Portugal start telling me how warm it is over there.

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about the warmth. When I came to London, I was perfectly aware of the rain and the cold, and those are just two of the things that I love about it.

I still can’t avoid the surprising look on people’s faces when I answer “no, thank you” to the question “milk?”.

Leaving Hampstead

Friday was my last day working in Hampstead. We are moving to Soho now—the heart of London, they say.

It’s been a wonderful year and I’m already missing Hampstead, but I can’t deny that the excitement of the move, of new things and new days is clouding the sadness.

When I landed in London after my trip to New York, I thought it was good to be home. It was the first time I felt that way about London.

(I was going to tweet this, but I didn’t want this thought to be lost.)

Thinking

This past weekend, while walking around Brick Lane, I entered a bike shop, and something I had never thought came to my mind: bikes look nice.

I like things that look nice. So the thought of buying one has been crossing my mind lately. It doesn’t mean I will ever do it though—I don’t even know if I can still ride one—but that alone is a big deal.

If anyone would like to buy me one, the one of the photo is exactly what I want 🙂
