Nando’s

I’ve only recently had the opportunity of trying out a Nando’s restaurant—the South African and Portuguese chain—and their “peri-peri” chicken (it looks funny though, it should be “piri-piri” in Portuguese…).

I was a bit wary and thought I wouldn’t like it—knowing the original well—, but that chicken was indeed marvelous. Everything else was fine.

Nando’s chicken is now my favourite dish in London.

I am under the impression that police men walking in pairs use a different type of hat each. Am I terribly wrong?

Hot/Cold

Living in London has completely altered the way I feel the hot and the cold. You could tell me it’s 30º when it’s only 22º and I’d believe it.

When I go to Portugal and hear someone saying the weather isn’t that great, I’ll just roll my eyes disapprovingly—I’ve become a weather snob.

I now understand why so many tourists dress like it’s summer in our Portuguese winter. It is summer.

(I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this on the website before, but this is a blog about London, so you’re bound to get a lot weather related posts.)

One Year Later

It’s been exactly one year since I’ve moved to London.

I’m proud to say that, after one year, I now know exactly in which carriage to get in to in order get out exactly in front of the exit.

A typical summer day

A cold morning. A rather warm afternoon. Rain during the evening. Or nothing like this.

Ballet

I went to the ballet yesterday. We saw Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House, in Covent Garden. We had a drink at the Champagne Bar, and were smartly dressed, like everyone else. I loved it!

It turned out to be a rather expensive evening, but it was worth every cent. It’s good to know that the opportunity of doing it again is right here at me doorstep, every day.

More rain

Call me crazy, but I’m actually enjoying looking outside my window and seeing the rain. I didn’t come to London expecting a “barbecue summer”.

Traffic

Fact: cars drive on the wrong side of the road here in London.

During the first few months of living in London, I would always look at the right side of the road and then be startled by any cars that were passing in the wrong direction.

Now when I go to Portugal, or any other country that has its traffic on the right side of the road, I’m really confused.

So now I don’t know in which direction to look at in any country of the world, not only the UK. Thanks, London.

Everybody’s got them around here. Sometimes I feel like I’m lacking.

The Hummingbird Bakery

Following my previous post about food and Notting Hill, I thought I’d mention The Hummingbird Bakery, which, for the second Sunday in a row has been letting me down. I once tasted an amazing cupcake from there, but lately they just taste too sweet to me. Opinions around me are divided.
